WHAT IS A TRADE MARK?

A trade mark (or brand name) is a means of identification and serves to distinguish the goods or services of one business from those of another.  Typically a trade mark is a symbol such as a word, logo, picture or a combination of these elements.

Trade marks are divided into different classes depending on the nature of the goods or services involved.  Currently there are 45 classes, 34 for goods and 11 for services.

We advise on the registrability of trade marks and their suitability.  We also register trade marks on behalf of our clients.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD TRADE MARK?

A good trade mark exclusively identifies the goods or services of the owner from similar goods or services of competitors and helps to build up brand loyalty.

A well known trade mark can be of great value.
